I’m a K-5 Title I school librarian and fund my library (NOT media center!) thru Scholastic book fairs (3/year) and grants. I’ve felt that way about those books, too, but now I’ll see them differently. BTW, I bought your wonderful book at my Christmas book fair. How is your dad? My wonderful principal intervened with the school district so that I could have a fixed shedule and now my kids come to the library every week and we spend half their time checking out books and half with me reading to them. I was horrified by what happened to your dad and hope those principals have mended their ways.

I too had heard that the most important thing you can do is read to your children. We have three and have read to them since birth. The two in school have skipped a grade and the youngest at 4 has the vocabulary of a much older child. We continue to read to them each night and they are 11, 8 and 4. We enjoy our time together even if it’s only 15 minutes!

Thank you for writing and sharing your story in The Reading Promise. It is a beautiful book. I read a chapter with my 6 year old this morning and just finished the book myself. I have a 6 year old daughter and a 4 year old son and truly hope to give them the gift of a love of reading. Your book has helped inspire me to make this a more active commitment in my daily life.
